What We Did On Our Holidays…..

Didn’t get a chance to see us this summer? We’ve managed to pull together a Virtual Gig made up of YouTube videos of our summer festival appearances.

Didn’t get a chance to see us this summer? We’ve managed to pull together a Virtual Gig made up of YouTube videos of our summer festival appearances.
1. I Can Hew – Cambridge Folk Festival

Cambridge was such an exciting festival to play. We played two sets of ceilidh on the Friday afternoon and you can see our caller Mr Gordon ‘The-Man-The-Legend’ Potts loitering at the back here. As well as the ceilidh, we managed to slip in a few songs including ‘I Can Hew’. We spent the rest of the weekend watching some other fantastic bands, wandering around signing autographs, and generally pretending we were a famous band for a weekend.

2. Moonshiner – Bromsgrove

Bromsgrove is a small festival hosted in the garden of a pub. After we’d played our set we retired to the bar of the pub to drink lots of gin and have a good old sing-song. The other highlight of the festival was being given our own marquee. We pitched four tents in there, and carried in a picnic table and a sun-shade umbrella – proper VIPs!

3. Mr Slippyfist – Sidmouth

All three of the gigs we played at Sidmouth were great fun: Monday’s late night extra at the Bulverton, and two concerts in the Anchor gardens on Tuesday evening and Wednesday afternoon. When we weren’t playing on stage, we took to the streets and busked to try and generate a buzz for our Anchor appearances. Here we are playing Mr. Slippyfist with a little help from our friends – the brass section of Steamchicken.

4. Ford O Kabul River – Pave @ Hull

Ok, so this wasn’t strictly a summer gig or a festival, but it is a video and we did return to Hull’s Folk and Maritime festival later in the year.

5. Cliffs of Moher/Slagathors Death Roundabout – Shrewsbury

Here we are at Shrewsbury’s Late Night Extra ceilidh, this time with Martyn Harvey calling.

We did a lot of these late night party slots over the summer, including Festival at the Edge, Sidmouth, Whitby and Folk East. This particular weekend – the August bank holiday – was especially manic, travelling from Whitby on Thursday to Lowestoft on Friday (for Folk East) and then over to Shrewsbury on Saturday.

6. Whip Jamboree – DV8 Festival

One of the first festivals of the summer, DV8 was a bit unusual for us: we’re used to playing folk and beer festivals, but this was a Steampunk & Goth festival. Nonetheless, we went down a storm with the crowd.

Here we are playing ‘Whip Jamboree’. It’s reasonably new material for us, but we’ve been playing this to finish our set or as an encore. And in this video Stuart debuts his – now iconic – sailor suit.

So that’s that – a little snap-shot of our summer. We’ll be spending the winter months honing our bodies with exhaustive exercise routines and tailor-made diets in prep for the next run.

We hope you’ve enjoyed the concert. Have a safe journey home. And don’t forget to visit the merch table on the way out!
